Bernadette is a little girl kidnapped by Gypsies. When she grows up, she is sold to an Arab emir.

Rescued during a police raid, she is taken in by the Salvation Army which sells her to a kosher butcher who is getting ready to cut her up when she is saved by Saint-Nicolas with whom she sets up home, etc.
